Gather materials
- Open the card and decide which side you want to be the front.
- Decide how big you want the photo to be on the card. Measure, cut a square of scrap paper, and make sure it will fit on the card.
- Use double-sided tape to tape the photo onto the piece of scrap paper, or glue it with a glue stick. Allow glue to dry before proceeding.
- Cut a square of patterned paper about 1/4 inch bigger than the scrap paper and photo.
- Place this square onto the area of the card you’ve chosen as the front, lining up the edges neatly so that there is no white showing around it.
- Use double-sided tape or a glue stick to attach it to your card base in all 4 corners. Allow drying time for glue stick.
- Find your corner rounder punch and punch all 4 corners of this square of patterned paper.
- If you have an extra border punch that looks good with your patterned paper, use that now – if not, skip this step!

Write the words “Welcome Home” on the top
This is a very sweet craft, and can be given to anyone who has been away for a while. It’s not just for soldiers, but you could make the card say “Welcome Home Soldier” if you wanted to.
- First, take a piece of cardstock and fold it in half.
- Write the words “Welcome Home” on the top.
- Now get out some crayons or colored markers and add decorations around the words. You can make flowers and/or stars or whatever you want.
- When you are done decorating, open up your card.
- On the inside left side, write a welcome home message such as “We Missed You” or “How was your trip?”
- On the inside right side, write something like: “We are so glad you are home!”
Add a few colorful stickers
- Fold one piece of card stock in half and set it aside.
- Cut the second piece of card stock in half. Fold each piece in half to create the front and back of the card.
- Decorate the front of the card with markers, crayons or paint.
- Use scissors to cut out shapes from construction paper and glue them onto the card.
- Use a hole punch to make holes on either side of the card and thread ribbon through the holes. Tie knots at each end to secure.
- Glue buttons and other embellishments onto the front of the card.
- If you have a computer, type a message on your computer, print it out and glue it inside the card.
- Add stickers to the outside or inside of your welcome home card.
Adhere that to the bottom of the paper
After you have cut out your paper, fold it in half. Then, grab your cardboard and your glue. Apply a generous amount of glue to the bottom of the paper and adhere that to the bottom of the cardboard. Now, you’re ready to embellish!
